Timothy Beutler

Timothy Beutler – Lecturer Berlin (Production and Music Theory, Audio Engineering Acoustic Tools)

Timothy Beutler lives in Berlin and is a drummer, composer, and producer. He has taught at the University of CA, Santa Barbara and at the San Roque School and has given several individual drum lessons. As a freelancer, he has been active as a musician, engineer, and producer. He is a member of numerous musical groups such as Moink and ADS/R, and Ultra Sutra of several music styles such as glam punk, electro-rock, and rock.

This Pro Tools and Ableton Live specialist lives by the motto “Stay positive! You can do anything you want” and wishes to share with his students his passion for music.

Hannes Bieger

Hannes Bieger – Guest Lecturer at Abbey Road Institute Berlin

As one of Europe’s most in-demand mixing engineers, Hannes Bieger spent a decade cultivating an untouchable reputation, with an exhaustive client list that includes some of the biggest names in contemporary house and techno music.

Learning key lessons from some of the most talented producers in the game, he has accumulated a huge store of knowledge and skills resulting in a deeply intuitive, ‘less is more’ approach.

A number one selling artist on Beatport, Hannes is releasing on influential labels such as John Digweed’s Bedrock, Steve Bug’s Poker Flat, Audiofly’s Flying Circus and Davide Squillace’s This And That. Parallel to his production exploits, Hannes has been investing his time and energy into developing his own live show which he has taken him across Europe and South America so far.

Peter Bremm

Peter Bremm – Lecturer at Abbey Road Institute Frankfurt (History of Production, Sound Theory, Basic
Electronics, Analog/Digital Audio/Interconnectivity, Synthesis (Sound Synthesis),
Sampling, Acoustics, Loudspeaker, Amplifiers, Film Production Sound, Post Production)

The qualified electrical engineer Peter Bremm turned his hobbies electronics and music
into his profession four years ago and brought his broad knowledge of this exciting area
into his new role.

He was, among other things, development manager at Stubbe
electronic, technical director at companies such as Studio sound & Music and Teac &
Tascam and was in charge of the arrangement and design of professional recording
studios at BFE.

The guitarist knows his way around several studios and live mixers as well as software
products like Cubase, Samplitude and WaveLab. Moreover, he published many articles
for trade magazines and the books “Das digitale Tonstudio” and “Timecode – Zeit am
laufenden Band”.

Jan Hagenkötter

Jan Hagenkötter – Lecturer at Abbey Road Institute Frankfurt (Music Business and Management)

Jan Hagenkötter is the mastermind behind the internationally acclaimed music publisher
and independent label INFRACom!.

Since 1992, INFRACom! has been offering a broad repertoire of all kinds of modern
music apart from the classic mainstreams. Artists such as Dublex Inc., Shantel,
Phoneheads, Aromabar, [re:jazz] and many more have been published there.

Since 2000, several concert festivals and parties have been held under the “jazznotjazz”
label in Frankfurt with artists like Marcos Valle, José James, Jimi Tenor, Nicola COnte,
Tony Allen, Alice Russel, Mulatu Astatke, Quantic, and US3.

In the year 2009, he developed “Hear the Music”; a digital b2b promotional tool for
music now used by Universal Music, Motor, Rough Trade et al for radio, DJ, and press
promotion companies.

Nils Hahmann

Nils Hahmann – Lecturer at Abbey Road Institute Frankfurt (Pro Tools, Avid S6, Microphones, Stereo Microphonics, Audio Networks)

After finishing his studies in audio engineering at the SAE Frankfurt and doing some semesters in electronic technology at the TU Berlin, his way led him to (radio play) broadcasting in the Berlin studio scene. Since then Pro Tools became his main DAW.

Started in 1997, he worked for about ten years as a product specialist for Digidesign/Avid and introduced Pro Tools and its additional hardware controllers to users for four years.

For the last ten years, Nils Hahmann has been working as an independent sound engineer and possesses years of experience with classical, choral, jazz, and rock music. Within the framework of these activities, he gained experience both with surround recording and 3D productions as well as audio network.

Jan Hennig alias DJ Kabuki

Jan Hennig aka DJ Kabuki – Lecturer at Abbey Road Institute Frankfurt (Synthesis, Sampling, remixing Tools, Ableton/Max MSP)

Kabuki’s success started in the international Drum’n’Bass scene of the 90s. During the
first years of the new century he published two critically acclaimed albums (“Signal To

Noise”, 2004 and “Warrior Soul”, 2010) as well as several 12 inches through labels like V
Recordings, Sonar Kollektiv or Reinforced Records.

After working as a composer of video game music in Tokyo, Jan Hennig then came back to
Frankfurt to reflect on his hip hop roots through his latest album “Meditations”.

Apart from his activities as a record producer and DJ, he’s also active in the field of sound
design and preset programming – having already produced sample packs and presets
for famous producers such as Native Instruments, Softube or Novation.

Gyso Hilger

Gyso Hilger – Lecturer at Abbey Road Institute Frankfurt (Logic Pro)

Gyso Hilger worked for several years as an audio engineer, music producer, composer
and musician in the Lofthaus Studios and the “Get into Magic” Studios in Darmstadt
before becoming self-employed at the recording studio Nektarium in 2004 in Darmstadt.

In addition to that, he became famous as the guitarist of the band “Tobsucht” and
the musical mastermind of the electronic-jazz duo “Nekta”.

Above all, the Logic Pro expert – who is also thoroughly familiar with Ableton Live,
Wavelab and Izotope RX – wishes to teach the students of Abbey Road Institute how to
use software technology as a musical tool.

Jens Kleinhuis

Jens Kleinhuis – Head Coach and lecturer in Frankfurt (Equalizing, Dynamic Range Processing, Effects, Cabling and Wiring, Mixing Consoles (API), Production Techniques, Session Planning, Small Consoles, Microphones, Practical Outboard Workstation Recording Studio, Advanced Recording Studio, Live Sound, Studio Exam)

Jens Kleinhuis is the main contact person for course attendees at Abbey Road Institute Frankfurt.

He finished his Bachelor’s degree at the Middlesex University London and acquired his audio engineering diploma at SAE Frankfurt.

As FOH and monitor engineer, the passionate drummer worked for several years for diverse companies focused on event technology as well as for the Centralstation Darmstadt and with musicians like Roachford, Mothers Finest, Die Happy, Marceo Parker, Till Brönner and Lee Ritenour.

As studio engineer he taught at the Dolphin Studios Moerfelden, mixed and co-produced for Striegl, Univision, Paddy goes to Holyhead and many more.

Michael Kusterer-Trenkle

Michael Kusterer-Trenkle – Lecturer at Abbey Road Institute Frankfurt (Pro Tools, Stereo Miking Techniques, Practical Recording Workshop, Restoration, Mastering)

Sound engineer Michael Kusterer-Trenkle is founder and co-owner of “schoko pro
GmbH” and for over 20 years, he has been operating this successful recording and
video studio in Wiesbaden (schokopro.com).

Since 1996 he is also working as a freelance lecturer in the areas of the stereo
microphonics/classic recording, ProTools/DAW2/DAW3, multi-channel sound,
mastering and DVD authoring.

At the Music Academy in Wiesbaden, he was responsible for the development and
implementation of the postgraduate program “Sound Engineering for Music and
Musical Education”.

Furthermore, he has a teaching certificate for the area of event technology and media
design for image and sound. Since 1990 he has been working as a live sound engineer
FOH and live operator for ProTools and special multi-channel sound applications.

Steve Lillywhite

Steve Lillywhite CBE – Guest Lecturer at Abbey Road Institute 

Since he began his career in 1977, Steve Lillywhite has been credited on over 500 records and has collaborated with a variety of musicians including U2, The Rolling Stones, Dave Matthews Band, Bruce Foxton (of The Jam), Big Country, Peter Gabriel, Talking Heads, Morrissey, Thirty Seconds to Mars, The Killers, The Pogues, David Byrne, XTC, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Simple Minds, The Psychedelic Furs, Beady Eye, Phish, Counting Crows and Joan Armatrading.

Steve has won six Grammy Awards, including the Producer of The Year in 2006, and was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2012 for his contributions to music.

Klas Lindblad

Klas Lindblad – Lecturer at Abbey Road Institute Berlin (Mastering)

He has been living, breathing and producing music for the last 20 years non stop. Born and raised in Finnland he moved to Berlin in 2003 and since then experienced and influenced many different musical genres.

Since 1995, Klas Lindblad published electronic music under numerous synonyms. He is the label boss and founder of Moodmusic Records and has been managing Blackhead Studios since 2003, mixing and mastering for several different techno- and pop giants.

Sylvia Massy

Sylvia Massy – Guest Lecturer at Abbey Road Institute Berlin

She has been Producing, Engineering and Mixing popular music for decades. She’s renowned for her work with Tool, System of a Down, Johnny Cash and Prince. She’s received over 25 gold and platinum records including awards for her work with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sevendust and Tom Petty.


She’s also an accomplished fine artist, a published columnist, in-demand educator and relentless entrepreneur. But to her many friends, she’s just Sylvia, the Radiant Being.


Sylvia Massy has delivered one of our most avant-garde workshops to date, including experimentation with micing chickens and filtering sound through mini Babybel cheese, pickles and a lamp.. you can find out more about Sylvia’s creative studio techniques on our blog.

Max (Möhler) Power

Max (Möhler) Power – Lecturer at Abbey Road Institute Berlin (Pro Tools, Recording Techniques)

Max Möhler has worked for seven years as an audio designer for Sat 1, before changing in 2010 for the same position at the Jellyfish Studios (N24).

Moreover, since 2005 he has been working as an independent producer and audio engineer for Flux Fm (formerly Motor FM) and since 2013 as an engineer at Chez Cherie Studio Berlin as well.

Between 2012 and 2015, he has worked as an assistant/engineer for Moses Schneider.
Since 2016 he has been supervising the monthly production of radioeins session at Studio Wong. His projects include Fehlfarben, Tocotronic, Beatsteaks, Olli Schulz, Turbostaat, Chuckamuck and KIZ.

Ronald Prent

Ronald Prent –  Guest Lecturer at Abbey Road Institute

He started out at Wisseloord in 1980 as an inexperienced assistant and has since established himself as one of the most accomplished and innovative recording & mix engineers in the world. At Abbey Road Institute, Ronald Prent teaches mixing and advanced recording techniques.

He specializes in surround sound, pioneering in mixing and playing a key role in the development of new technology used in progressive high-resolution formats. In the early years of surround audio development, Ronald Prent was a “test pilot” for Sony and Philips’ DSD/SACD format. Many of the projects that he mixed in those days are still held up as benchmark examples of creative surround mixing. API’s flagship ‘Vision’ console which features simultaneous stereo and surrounds mixing capability and SPL’s benchmark MMC1 multi-channel mastering console are two examples of technological excellence stemming from Ronald’s original and practical ideas.

His long list of clients includes notable artists such as Simple Minds, Rammstein, The Scorpions, Mink DeVille, Richie Hawtin, Udo Lindenberg, Gotthard, Tina Turner, Ilse DeLange, Live, Within Temptation, Herbert Grönemeyer, Clouseau, Lori Lieberman, Manowar, Alain Clark, and Peter Maffay.

Darcy Proper

Darcy Proper – Guest lecturer at Abbey Road Institute (Mastering engineer)

She is a successful sound engineer and a role model for many within the industry. Darcy graduated with honors from NYU’s Music Technology program and began her career at Sony Classical Productions and Sony Music Studios in New York City. After twenty years in the big apple, she made the jump to Europe, accepting a position as Senior Mastering Engineer at Galaxy Studios in Belgium. In 2010, Darcy became part of the team of adventurers dedicated to the revival of Wisseloord Studios in The Netherlands, where she currently bases her work as a mastering engineer.

Over the years, Darcy Proper has been honored with 3 Grammy awards and 9 nominations and has won several other awards for her work.

Prof. Matthias Raue

Prof. Matthias Raue – Dozent at Abbey Road Institute Frankfurt (Music Theory, Arranging, Film Production Sound, Post Production, Film Music Mixing, Film Sound Aesthetics, Film Music, Synthesis)

Matthias Raue, geboren am 27. August 1952 in Frankfurt am Main, ist umgeben von Musikalität aufgewachsen. Nach der Schule studierte er erst Schulmusik an der Hochschule für Musik in Frankfurt, dann Komposition an der Hochschule der Künste in Berlin bei Isang Yun.

Seit 1981 arbeitet er als freier Komponist. Neben Kammermusik und Orchesterwerken, sowie Ballett- und Bühnenmusiken hat er vor allem Musik für Film- und Fernsehproduktionen geschrieben (darunter u.a. die Titelmusik und Lieder zu Löwenzahn). Er arbeitete u.a. am Schauspiel Frankfurt, TAT Frankfurt, Ohio Theater N.Y.  

Als Produzent, Komponist und Musiker gründete er die „Tanit Media GmbH“ und  das „Tanit Studio“.

Seit 1996 leitet Matthias Raue den Studiengang Filmkomposition an der Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg in Ludwigsburg.

Christoph Rinnert

Christoph Rinnert – Lecturer at Abbey Road Institute Berlin (Music Business & Management)

After growing up in Istanbul, Christoph Rinnert pursued his Islam and Comparative Music Studies at the Free University Berlin. Recording and playing with many bands around Europe in the following years, he intensified his work in the studio in the early 1980s. Ever since, he produced and composed score music for documentaries and fiction movies such as „Georg Baselitz“, „Die Akte Pasolini“, „Unter Brüdern“, „GZSZ“, „Body of Truth” and may more. He is also a member of the evaluation committee of GEMA, advisory board of Künstlersozialkasse (KSK) and member of the German Music Council.

Stefan Weiser

Stefan Weiser – Head Coach and lecturer in Berlin (Sound Theory, Acoustics, Decibels, Metering, Synthesis, Sampling, Ableton, Logic)

Stefan is a trained sound engineer and music educator. He acquired his degree in “Magister of Art” at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. In addition to that, he mastered his teacher’s certificate for jazz piano and drums at the Hauer-Conservatory in Wiener Neustadt.

He was an assistant for several producers like Pelle Saethers and Daniel Wehr as well as co-producer of Megablast for the label “Luv Lute” and worked as an independent composer for artists such as Defex, Milou, Telekollegen and DAWA in both Berlin and Ibiza.

The native Austrian masters not only piano, drums, and percussion, but also guitar and vocals. Furthermore, the programming of synthesizers and MIDI, composition and recording belong to his area of teaching subjects.

Since 2016 Stefan Weiser is the head coach and lecturer of Abbey Road Institute Berlin.

Ulli Schiller

Ulli Schiller – Campus manager at Abbey Road Institute Frankfurt (Engineer and lecturer)

After completing his electronic engineer studies, Ulli Schiller has been working in the audio industry for more than 30 years, ten of those as a sound engineer in several studios.

In the field of live sound engineering he worked, inter alia, with Jonas Hellborg, John Scofield, Jack De Johnette, Peter Erskine, Bill Frisell, Ginger Baker, Lester Bowie & Art Ensemble of Chicago, Shirley Bassey, Art Blakey, Charly Antolini and Archie Shepp.

Ulli Schiller was director and developer for Kemsonic Audio Messsysteme GmbH in Bielefeld and worked as a school principal, lecturer and project manager for SAE Germany in Frankfurt over 20 years.

As a passionate guitar player and sound engineer, he wishes to share not only his knowledge but his enthusiasm for this profession as well.

Moses Schneider

Moses Schneider – Guest Lecturer Abbey Road Institute Berlin

He is one of the most important music producers in Germany. Nominated for the ECHO in 2008, he can already look back on a long successful career. His main projects include work with the Beatsteaks, Tocotronic and Kreator.

Moses Schneider has had a long and successful career, with more than 180 albums published. In 1990, seven years before he founded the “Transporterraum” recording studio in Berlin, he co-produced the legendary Pixies album “Bossanova” together with British star producer Gil Norton.

His unmistakable production style makes him a champion of live recording. In many of his productions, he records all instruments at the same time in the same room.

“The technical setup does not guarantee a successful recording, it is the feeling which builds up during every song and which lies dormant within,” he explains.

Schneider captures the live quality of each artist in their own way, which characterizes the sound of his productions.

In addition to teaching in the form of guest lectures at various colleges, Schneider summarizes his entire knowledge of live recording in his book “the alternative workbook or how to pimp your practice room”.

Christian Stader

Christian Stader – Lecturer at Abbey Road Institute Frankfurt (Alignment/Pitch Correction, Music Business and Management, Music Theory, Arranging)

The composer and sound engineer (Lismore University, Australia) Christian Stander
worked in London for four and a half years after his studies as a freelance engineer,
composer, musician and producer. Artists, labels, and publishers booked his services
for studios such as Abbey Road, Air Studios, or Townhouse. He mixed for artists like
David Gilmour, Nick Beggs, Faithless, Aviv Geffen, Falco, and Max Nouchy (Yodelice).

Christian Stader came back to Germany in 1998 and made himself a reputation in the field of
theatre (Theater Freiburg, Nationaltheater Mannheim, Bad Hersfeld Festspiele, etc.) and
composed pop songs, film soundtracks, brandings, and musicals. Since 2012 he has
been running the former “van Geest Studios” in Sandhausen – a 1000qm studio complex
and network in which several engineers and companies work together. Its infrastructure
allows artists to relax in order to use their maximum creativity for the production of high
quality work.

Peter Walsh

Peter Walsh – Lecturer at Abbey Road Institute Berlin 

He is best known for his work on the breakthrough Simple Minds album “New Gold Dream” and for his long association with Peter Gabriel; notably as co-producer and mixer of “Plays Live”, & Grammy award-winning “Secret World Live”. He has co-produced, recorded and mixed the last five Scott Walker albums, including the critically acclaimed “Soused,” released on 4AD Records in October 2014.

Joining Utopia Studios, London, in 1978, Peter earned his first UK Golden record in 1981 with Heaven 17’s debut album “Penthouse And Pavement”. In 2002 Peter Walsh was awarded a Latin Grammy as a producer of the Miguel Bosé album “Sereno”. Recent projects include albums with Andrés Suarez (Sony Spain), Gilbert O’Sullivan (Union Square) and co-producing, recording and mixing the Scott Walker score for Brady Corbet’s award-winning film ‘The Childhood Of A Leader‘. Peter is currently in the studio with Gilbert O’ Sullivan.
